It starts with a word.
A name.
Something only you would choose.

Inside the personaliser, the word takes shape.
Every choice is yours.

It's then composed by hand, letter by letter.

By one of Australia's leading pop artists.
Commissioned by Cartier, Nike and PlayStation.

Once composed, it's then hand-crafted in his Melbourne studio.
Built, refined, finished — one at a time.

On the reverse, a personal mark.
Hand-drawn by Nathan for the collector.

From word to artwork. A one of one piece.
Made just for you.

On your wall, in your space.
In your collection.
MADE IN MELBOURNE
Handcrafted by Nathan and his team. Every piece is checked by him personally before it leaves the studio.
NO TWO ALIKE
Your word. Your format. Your extras. Four colour layers. Twenty-seven shades each. 14 Billion combinations. Yours is one. Then created by hand, by Nathan himself.

NATHAN's WORLD

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Nathan's playful, child-like approach has taken him to exhibiting across the world...

To having his face plastered on billboards...

And even meeting the Mayor.

Whether it's an abstract artwork or a letter of the alphabet, in Nathan's world, everything lives...

Nothing is exempt from having to deal with everyday life in all its complexity… and mundanity.

Inspired by the Memphis art movement of the 80s...

and cartoons of the 90s...

Nathan's anthropomorphised graphical approach is paired with an experimental use of colour, pattern, line and shape.

His practice moves freely between art, design, illustration, fashion and furniture.

YOUR DESIGN
Fully. You choose the word (up to seven letters), the format, the size and four separate colour layers — the letters, the background, the background pattern and the shadow — with 27 shades in each. Then a frame choice (canvas only) and up to ten extra elements like a halo, flames or a money bag. It runs to billions of combinations before your word is counted. No two Nathan I-D pieces are the same.
Yes. Once you order, Nathan hand-builds your concept and emails you a proof within 5 business days, with at least two directions to choose from. You then get one free revision before anything goes to production. Nothing is finalised until you have approved it.
That is what the proof stage is for. Nathan creates every piece by hand, himself. Which means he reviews every design himself, sends you options, and will flag anything that won't read or print well. You pick the direction; he makes sure it lands.
Up to seven letters, English alphabet only. No numbers. There is no upper or lower case — the characters are drawn one way, which is the Nathan I-D style.
Yes. There are three custom slots for extra elements, at $50 AUD each. Keep them small and simple — there is limited space around the artwork, so small simple items work best. Nathan confirms what is possible at the proof stage.
No. Your piece is a one-of-one — numbered 1/1, signed, and logged on its certificate. If someone else ever chooses the same word, Nathan composes it with different letter characters, colours and elements — a completely different artwork, with its own hand-drawn illustration on the back. Yours is only ever made once.
The builder caps at seven letters to keep the artwork balanced. For anything larger or even more custom, email hello@nathanandfriends.net.
IS IT REALLY HANDMADE?
Hand-drawn, then hand-composed. Nathan drew every character in the Nathan I-D alphabet by hand — the letters, the faces, the linework. For your piece he hand-builds the composition around your word: the layout, the four colour layers, the elements and the finish, put together by him one piece at a time in his Melbourne studio. Letterforms come from his own hand-drawn set, so a letter can appear on more than one artwork — but your composition, colourway and finished piece are unique to you. Nathan also draws a one-of-a-kind illustration by hand on the back of every piece, then signs and checks it himself.
FORMATS & MATERIALS
The Giclee is an ultra-high-resolution fine art print on 310gsm Canson Print Making Rag — a premium cotton paper with a velvety, textured surface, a huge colour gamut and archival standard. It comes rolled, unframed, and signed on the back. The stretched canvas is printed on Canson 380gsm poly-cotton matte canvas, hand-stretched over timber so it stays taut without cracking, and sealed with an Aquathane-UV matte/satin laminate — fade-resistant, durable and easy to clean. It arrives ready to hang.
Prints: A3, A2, A1. Canvas (3:2 ratio): 45 x 30cm, 66 x 44cm, 75 x 50cm, 100 x 67cm, 135 x 90cm, 180 x 120cm. Need a size that isn't listed? Email hello@nathanandfriends.net — custom sizes are available across both formats.
Prints come rolled and unframed — there is no frame option for prints, so you frame it your end. Canvas arrives ready to hang as a standard stretched canvas: a plain timber back with no wire or hooks fitted, framed or unframed.
Both formats are archival. It will be 100+ years before any fading begins. The canvas laminate adds UV and physical protection on top.
Canvas is easy to clean — a light spray and wipe is fine. Keep prints framed under glass in a sealed frame. Keep both out of long, direct sunlight.
